1. BACK PORCH
The portion of a composite video signal which lies between the trailing edge of a horizontal sync pulse and the trailing edge of the corresponding blanking pulse.
2. BANDA LARGA
3. BANDPASS FILTER
A filter that will pass only a specific band of frequencies
4. BEAM
The electron stream inside of a pickup device or picture tube that is used to discharge the faceplate of the pickup device in order to generate the video signal.
5. BIAS
A steady DC. operating voltage or current applied to an electrode to establish the basic operating conditions of a device.
6. BLACK COMPRESSION
Also known as black saturation, it is the reduction in gain applied to a video signal at the black levels which is corresponding to the dark areas of the picture using as reference the gain at a level corresponding to the midrange light value of the picture.
7. BLACK LEVEL
The level of the video signal that corresponds to the maximum limits of the black areas of the picture.
8. BLACK PEAK
The peak excursion of the video signal in the black direction.
9. BLANKING
The process of cutting off the electron beam in a camera pickup device or picture tube during the retrace period. It is a signal that is composed of recurrent pulses at line and field frequencies. It is intended primarily to make the retrace on a pickup device or picture tube invisible.
10. BLANKING LEVEL
Also known as pedestal, it is the level of a video signal which separates the range that contains the picture information from the range that contains the synchronizing information.
11. BLEEDING WHITE
An overloading condition in which white areas of the video signal appear to flow irregularly into the black areas.
12. BLOOMING
The halation and defocusing effect that occurs around the bright areas of the picture (highlight) whenever there is an increase in the brightness intensity.
13. BOUNCE
A sudden variation, independent of scene illumination, that occurs in a picture.
14. BREATHING
Variations that are similar to the bounce variations but that occurs at a slower and regular rate.
15. BREEZEWAY
The portion of the back porch between the trailing edge of the horizontal synchronizing pulse and the start of the color burst.
